ESPN 30 for 30: ‘First Pitch’ nominated for Sports Emmy

The Worldwide Sports Emmys leader is at it again. ESPN thumped the field with 40 noms for the 37th annual awards, topping last year’s leading haul of 37 and far out front of rising rivalFox Sports 1, which ran second with 27. CBS leads the broadcast networks with 21 noms, topping Fox and last year’s net leader NBC, which scored 19 apiece. CBS also can claim another victory as its longtime announcer Verne Lundquist will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.

ESPN’s E:60 scored eight Sports Emmy noms, which were announced today by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Fox Sports Live and Super Bowl 50 ran second with seven each.

“What a year in sports: a Triple Crown winner (at last), a dramatic World Series, the changing of the guard at the Masters and a hard-fought upset in the Super Bowl, just to name a few highlights,” said Steve Ulrich, SVP of the Sports Emmy Awards. “These great milestones, along with some evocative work from the sports documentary community are the hallmarks of this year’s entries.”
